We have much pleasure to announce that Mr. Amar Gill, Secretary General Designate of Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) as our keynote speaker sharing his expertise in financial services and investment industry.

 

The charter award presentation ceremony will be graced by the presence of Ms. Brenda Hou, CFA, Head, Global Partnerships & Client Solutions, Growth Markets of CFA Institute, who will officiate the CFA Charter awards presentation ceremony.

 

 

Join us to commemorate this significant milestone in your career alongside other Level III CFA Exam achievers.  It’s also an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow members and senior officials from both CFA Institute and the Society.  During the event, all eligible new CFA charterholders will receive an additional presentation-sized (8.5” x 11”) charter.

 About the Keynote Speaker:

Mr.  Amar Gill
Secretary General Designate
Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA)

Mr. Amar Gill is Secretary General Designate, and will be responsible for directing ACGA’s research, advocacy and educational work in 12 Asia-Pacific markets, as well as for overall management of the association.

Amar has been a passionate advocate of good governance in the region for over 20 years and was a council member of ACGA from 2005 to 2008. From 1995 to 2018, he had been with CLSA, a Hong Kong-based regional securities company where he was responsible for thematic research; among various reports, Amar was co-author of the CLSA-ACGA CG Watch reports from 2001 to 2014. He won equity research awards from publications including Asiamoney, Euromoney and Institutional Investor at CLSA, and rose to become Head of Asia Research. In the early years of his career prior to joining CLSA, Amar held positions at Chemical Bank in Singapore as well as Southern Bank and Rashid Hussain Berhad in Malaysia.

Amar joined BlackRock in 2018 where he was Head of Investment Stewardship for APAC, leading the largest regional stewardship team of 20 persons and oversaw engagement and voting in the region. In 2023, Amar led the team to produce a report titled “Board Independence in Asia Pacific: A stewardship perspective”, highlighting the significant governance issues in markets characterized by dominant controlled companies. He has been a member of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission Public Shareholder Group since 2020.

Amar graduated with a First Class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and completed a Masters thesis in ethics from Oxford University, England.

Brenda Hou, CFA, CGMA, GAICD

As the Head, Global Partnerships & Client Solutions, Growth Markets, Brenda leads the team responsible for delivering global revenue
targets for a portfolio of learning products targeted at investment management professionals. Brenda is a member of the senior management team in APAC, collaborating with cross-functional teams regionally and globally.

Brenda brings over 25 years of experience in business development to the role, with deep experience in change management and organizational transformation. Prior to joining CFA Institute, she spent over eight years to lead the global and APAC strategy development and planning in Electrocomponents, the world’s largest distributors of electronics and maintenance products. Her
investment professional career started since 2000 when she led the investment team to conduct merger and acquisition deals in the region, followed by leading an IPO project in HK.

 

She received her CFA Charter in 2002 and Certification of ESG Investing in 2022. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA), Graduate of Australian Institute of Director (GAICD) and has a Bachelor degree of Business Administration (Finance) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

Important note:

  1. Awards Night is a member-exclusive event for active CFA Society Hong Kong members only.
  2. The presentation-sized charter will be exclusively awarded to CFA Charterholders who have earned their charter during the period from 28 October 2022 to 29 October 2023. It is an extra replica, printed on 8.5” x 11” museum quality paper, issued by CFA Institute from U.S.
  3. For regular membership applications, CFA Institute may take 7 to 10 business days for the review process. If your regular membership is activated after 29 October 2023, no presentation-sized charter could be arranged for this event or afterwards.
  4. In order to receive the presentation-sized charter during the event, your online registration must be completed by 29 Oct (Sun).  Otherwise, no presentation-sized charter could be arranged at the event. 

If you have yet to become a CFA Society Hong Kong member after passing the Level III CFA Exam, please take the last step to join us and attend the Awards Night.  Please note that CFA Institute may take 7 to 10 business days (subject to change) for the membership application review process.

 


Event policy for Substitutions, Cancellations and No Show applies

  1. All event registration and online payment should be completed by 29 October 2023 (Sunday). Please note that no presentation-sized charter could be arranged after this date.
  2. An email event confirmation will be sent upon completion of the online registration.  If you have not received an email confirmation prior to the event commencement, it is the delegates’ responsibility to contact the Society staff at member@cfahk.org to confirm the registration.
  3. If a registrant requests to cancel the registrations, the request must be made in writing on or before 29 October 2023 (Sunday). Cancellation requests made after 29 October and refund requests for no show on the event date will not be entertained. The Society will confirm acceptance of the cancellation request by email afterwards.  An administration fee HK$200 will be charged for the cancellation of a confirmed enrolment. The net of an administration fee of HK$200/person refund will be made within 4-6 weeks after 23 November 2023 via the original payment route.
  4. Substitutions are allowed.  Please notify the Society staff in writing by email at member@cfahk.org on or before 10 November 2023 (Friday) for the changes.  The rate differential for CFA Society Hong Kong members and Guests / Non-members will be charged if the substitute is a non-member. The Society will only confirm the change upon receiving payment of the rate differential on or before 10 November.
  5. If Typhoon Signal No.8 or above / Black Rainstorm warning is hoisted on the event day, the event will be cancelled. If the event of cancellation due to bad weather, the event will be rescheduled and event fees will be refunded.  Please click here for adverse weather policy.
  6. In complying with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, the information provided here will be accessed only by the Society for the purpose of this Awards Night. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for details.
  7. By registering for this event, you confirm that you and your guest(s) consent to appearing in any official event photographs and video footage.  The photographs and video footage can be used by the Society for marketing and publicity in our publications, on our website and in social media, or in a third-party publication.  In addition, photographs or video footage may be taken by other event attendees and publicly shared, for which the Society cannot be held responsible.
  8. The Society reserves the right to change the venue, date or speaker of the event due to any unforeseen circumstances without prior notice.
  9. In case of any dispute, the decision of CFA Society Hong Kong is final, and no further appeal will be entertained. 
  10. No complimentary parking will be arranged at the dinner venue by the Society.
